Midi Software for IBM PC & compatibles - 3 disk set #1
IMPORTANT!
BACKING UP YOUR DISKS
Please ensure that the first thing you do with your original disks is to
make backup copies. This is essential, as many files have to be
manipulated (un-archived) as described later in order to run. If you don't
follow this warning, you may lose your original material as supplied.
IMPORTANT - ARCHIVED FILES
Most of the files on these three disks come to you in archived form. This
means that they have been compressed using special software, and have to be
decompressed before they may be used. All such files have the extension
.ARC at the end of the filename. There are many ways to un-arc files. We
recommend the following course of action to users unfamiliar with
archiving:-
1. Copy each file, one at a time, to an empty formatted disk.
2. Copy the file supplied on disk #3, ARC-E.COM also to that disk.
3. Type ARC-E [filename] where [filename] is the name of the file with the
.ARC extension.
Example:
You will find the file MIDISTUF.ARC on disk #1. Format a blank disk and
copy MIDISTUF.ARC to the fresh disk, together with ARC-E.COM from disk #3.
Now insert the disk with these 2 files into drive A: and type ARC-E
MIDISTUF <ENTER>.
The programs will be extracted from the archive MIDISTUF.ARC and are now in
a usable state. They are contained, along with the original archive, on
the disk in drive A: which should be labelled according to content and
stored ready for use. The archive remains intact, but may be deleted if
desired.
ARC-E.COM is again copyrighted software. ARC-E 3.1b (C) 1986, 1987 Wayne
Chin and Vernon D. Buerg. You may obtain a version of ARC-E that may be
used to archive your own software and save significant disk space and
cataloging of your OWN files. Details from System Enhancement Associates,
21 New Street, Wayne, NJ 07470. Please read important information
concerning ARC-E.COM in the documentation file on disk #3, ARC-E.DOC.
